Will my turntable work with SpeakEasy?

Yes. The SpeakEasy 4 speaker system features a Phono input for direct vinyl LP playback, compatible with most turntables without the need for a separate phono preamplifier. Additionally, the Auxiliary input allows you to connect other devices like a CD player, tuner, or personal computer, providing flexibility for various audio sources.

Can I connect a subwoofer for more bass?

Yes. The SpeakEasy 4's "PRE OUT" lets you add a subwoofer or powered speakers for a customizable audio setup.

"The Andover Audio SpeakEasy 4 is a thoroughly modern powered-speaker system with satisfying sound at a surprisingly reasonable price. - NYT Wirecutter (Top Pick)

"If you have a turntable or record player in the mix, they are a no-brainer recommendation."
- Forbes

Disappointing, but I'll live with it until I've saved for something better

The sound is middling quality at best, bass guitars and drums are muddled, although can be heard, vocals are flat and everything else is ok. This is using a U-Turn turntable.. Switching to an external pre-amp and using the aux input made a very noticeable improvement, enough to make keeping them worthwhile. The HDMI TV input works nicely and is a moderate improvement on the Visio TV's built in audio.

The remote is strange. Firstly, it's not very remote: the line of sight to the IR sensor on the speaker is extremely narrow so that most of the time I walk over to the speaker and place the remote up next to the sensor. This also helps get around a bizarre problem where turning up the volume launches the Netflix app on my TV, which flips the speaker into TV mode. Using the AUX button to get back to the turntable often doesn't work and I have to turn the speaker off then on.

Very good, great sounding

I was looking for a basic soundbar or speakers to enhance the sound of my TV. I’ve got limited space, close neighbors, and a wife who doesn’t like booming bass. Wirecutter recommended these, and after considering other options, went with Speakeasy in white to match our white bookshelf. Only after ordering did I realize you can’t put a bookshelf speaker on a bookshelf, but that’s okay. They look good up front next to the TV. The sound is clean and natural, and they pair well with my iPhone. Apple Music sounds fantastic through them. Setup was a breeze. My only complaint, which explains the 4 instead of 5 stars, is that the volume can only be raised incrementally. Another reviewer pointed this out. I’d love to raise or lower by one notch rather than six. It’s either too loud or too quiet. For speakers designed this precisely, having precise control over volume should be automatic. Otherwise, the build and components of the speakers seem premium and the purchase price is more than fair.

Hey Robert! Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad it sounds good. The volume situation doesn't seem quite right. Are they setup to your TV using HDMI-ARC? If so, do you use your TV remote to control the volume? Or the SpeakEasy remote? If you'd like to take the convo to our support team use support@andoveraudio.com. We would hate for them to be defective!
