Buena Vista Social Club is an eponymous album by various artists, produced by guitarist Ry Cooder and released in 1997. The album features veteran Cuban musicians, many of whom were retired and had not recorded in years, performing traditional Cuban music. The album was a commercial and critical success, winning a Grammy Award and spawning a documentary film directed by Wim Wenders. It helped to popularize the "son" style of music and introduced many listeners to the rich and diverse musical culture of Cuba.
